- Understanding Colombian Women that Have Traveled Abroad
While living in Colombia, I have noticed there is a lot of classism in this country — especially with Colombian women that have traveled abroad
Where women will try to show how well “educated” and “well traveled” they are.
In terms of “well traveled,” keep in mind that most Colombians have never really traveled all that much in general. Quite frankly, most can’t afford it given the low wages in the country.
There are some Colombian women that have traveled abroad with companies like Avianca Airlines to nearby Latin American countries.
And most haven’t traveled outside of Latin America at all to any other part of the world.
In part, that is changing a little bit. It’s becoming a little more common for Colombians to travel more as the country isgetting better financially and the violence is not as bad as it has been before.
However, there is still a significant difference between the Colombian women that have traveled abroad and those that have not
In my time dating Colombian women, I noticed a big difference between the Colombian women that have traveled abroad specifically to the US, Canada or Europe…
And those who haven’t.
In short, there are some good differences but there is also a lot of bad differences as well.
It will be best then to break down the differences by the good and the bad from what I have observed over the years living here in Colombia.
The Good
Among Colombian chicks who have traveled abroad to specifically the US, Canada or Europe, they tend to speak English much better than chicks who have not.
Which makes sense since English is the language most people speak in the US and Canada and commonly spoken in Europe also.
So for those who have very limited Spanish, I suppose you can consider this a bonus. For me, it doesn’t matter if she speaksEnglish or not since I speak Spanish just fine.
The other thing too is that chicks that have traveled to those places tend to come from the middle class at the very leastto the upper middle class or higher.
And in most cases, it’s the upper middle class or higher.
With chicks like that, they tend to be better educated in universities and tend to have better job prospects.
I’m not saying that they are more likely to be “careerist” women and place a very big emphasis on climbing up the careerladder
Though many are like that
Just that they have better job prospects for raising a family together
On that note, that may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference.
For example, if you strictly want a woman who is going to be a stay at home mom, this would be the type of woman you would not want to settle down with.
If you want a woman who has a decent job but is more focused on having a good family than a strong career…
Well, you can find that type of woman easily enough in this crowd.
I’ve met plenty of these chicks before, especially in Bogota
There was one cute chick I met actually who had traveled quite a bit but she was still very feminine and naturally nice
She had a job baking pastries and overall valued more having a nice family than working in some big law firm or something like that
So not all women in this crowd are the careerist type who value career over family
Finally, the other benefit to women in this crowd is that they tend to be easier to talk to given their better education. They tend to have better communication skills and a better sense of humor. Overall, they can be pleasant to chat with in my experience.
The Bad
In my experience, there is plenty of bad that comes with these chicks also.
Remember how I said there is a lot of classism in Colombia?
Well, a lot of Colombians will look down at other Colombians for not having traveled as much
Among other things like not having the latest cell phone or for having a low quality car
Same thing overall – looking down on other people for not having the more expensive items or experiences in life
Now, granted, these Colombian chicks are not going to look down at you
Given that you are from the US and you obviously have traveled before because you are in her country
Along with the fact that they are likely to assume that you are simply better educated and wealthier for being from the US anyway
Which, in my experience, is a very common assumption among Colombians about people from the US, Canada or Europe
However, her nasty classist personality will be shown at every other moment against other Colombians
She will tend to act entitled because her parents were the ones who probably paid for that nice shopping vacation to Miami
Oh yes – plenty of Colombian chicks love their occasional trip to Miami or NYC to go shopping
And who pays for it?
Well, her dad probably.
So being around a woman who has an entitled and nasty classist attitude all the time towards other is not someone you want to talk to or be around
And this type of attitude is very common among some of the Colombian chicks who have traveled outside of Latin America to these mentioned places
Finally, some of these chicks will also have a more inflated ego because of their experience in the dating world in the US, Canada or Europe
In part because, to be honest, women have it a little bit easier in the dating scene up north than in Colombia
For whatever reason, from my observations, I have seen more desperate men in places like the US than in Colombia
With more desperate men willing to do whatever a girl wants, despite her being pretty or not, plenty of foreign women can get a bigger ego up there
Now, to be fair, out of the two issues mentioned in this section of the article, the first issue about classism is the worst byfar.
Most Colombian women I noticed don’t get an inflated ego from the dating scene and the desperate men up north in the US or elsewhere
However, it happens among just enough of them that it deserves mention from what I have seen
And usually when she comes back to Colombia to live here longer term, that ego usually gets adjusted anyway to the realities of the dating scene in Colombia
And that’s assuming she experienced an inflated ego anyway from up there, which, again, is not the case most of the time.
Third, as mentioned before, some of these Colombian women who have traveled a lot are also usually from wealthier families.
Therefore, as said before, they are more likely to be the “careerist” type woman who pursues a very high demanding career.
Nothing wrong with that in of itself.
However, from my experience, women like this tend to value “career” over family and relationships. Which usually means that don’t make the best partners in life.
Good people overall. Again, nothing wrong with this choice. Just usually these women don’t care as much about settling down or starting a family until they are much later in their 30s and they choose a guy they are not insane about anyway.
Either way, these are just some of the major issues that you will find among Colombian women who have traveled quite a bit.
