Spanish Learning Services & Tools

Vistas Introduccion A La Lengua Espanola is one of the best textbooks I have seen when it comes to learning Spanish. Very easy to use with plenty of useful vocabulary and grammar explanations. It also has different excercises to help you practice learning the language. When I first started learning Spanish, I first used other resources by the same company of this book, Vista Higher Learning. I also have this book and it is a amazing resource to use.

Duolingo is a good website that offers free material to practice your Spanish. From my experience, it complements well any more formalized services or materials you may use to learn the Spanish language. Worth using!

Smart Voice Language Translator Device is a great device that can be used to translate in both ways English and Spanish (including 45 other languages). I have known other foreigners in Colombia that have used this device or other similar devices when they have limited Spanish and want to meet Colombian women. While on a date, this device will translate what you are saying into Spanish and what she is saying into English. Very helpful.

VOSTEY Men’s Dress Shoes Leather Brogue Wingtip Oxford Shoes are 100% leather shoes that will help you more easily get the interest of some nice and beautiful Colombian women down here. Just as important, they are also very comfortable from my experience.

Michael Kors Stainless Steel Gage Watch with Navy Dial is a great watch that is reasonably priced for the quality that it offers. As mentioned before, Colombian women notice when a man is dressed nicely. With that said, having a decent quality watch such as this will help you stand out in the dating scene in Colombia from my experience.

Lonely Planet Colombia is a decent book for those with minimal knowledge about Colombia and are taking their first trip to the country. I always buy a book from Lonely Planet before going to a completely new country.

Moon Colombia is a great addition to what Lonely Planet offers in that this book also offers useful information on specific parts of Colombia, including Bogota, Medellin & the Coffee Region, Cartagena & the Caribbean Region, Cali, The Amazon, San Andres, Boyaca and more.

The Rational Male is one of the best books to help men learn how to properly deal with women. The advice in this book is applicable to women from any country that I have seen, including Colombian women. An absolute must read for any man in any country.

Bachelor Pad Economics is another good book that gives great advice for life in general for men, including dating advice as well. This book goes well with The Rational Male and also serves for helping you improve your life in general.

Killing Pablo is one of the best and most interesting books about Pablo Escobar. It goes until great detail on the US efforts during their manhunt to kill Pablo Escobar. If interested in more details on this subject, check out this great documentary on Youtube that discusses this topic also.

The Colombian Reader provides over 100 selections that give you deeper insight into Colombian history and culture. This book serves well to improve your understanding of Colombia.

Travel Companies

Avianca: For traveling to Latin America, Avianca is a great airline and you can often find cheap flights to and within Latin America between different cities in Colombia or elsewhere. This is one of my preferred websites to go to for booking a hotel.

Get Transfer: If you are in need of a taxi service anywhere, this company can help out.

Airport Parking Reservations: Plan your trip well and make sure to save on airport parking.

TripAdvisor: I always use TripAdvisor before going anywhere as they often have reliable information from my experience.

AirBnB is decent for short term stays while in Colombia.

Facebook is also another option where you can find Facebook groups where people post apartments or homes that they are either renting or selling.

Fincaraiz is a great website for finding an apartment. One of my favorites.

Encuentra24 is another good website and tends to have more options than most websites I have noticed.

El Tiempo has a classified section with apartments listed in different cities in Colombia.

Apts Colombia is an OK option for finding an apartment. It doesn’t have as many updated options as other websites but is worth checking out.

Metro Cuadrado has decent places also and is also a better option if you are looking to buy and not rent.

Mercado Libre is one of my favorite websites in general. Has plenty of good apartment options but also plenty of other things you can buy while in Colombia. If you plan to live in this counry, make sure to save this website into your computer when you are shopping online in general.

Comparto Apto is a good option if you are looking for a cheaper apartment from what I have seen. The only issue is that the quality of the places you get here are not as nice from my experience.

iCasas is another website I would check out. It has good options but I found it more difficult to get people to respond to my requests from this website. Still had a decent option either way.

Finally, it is also always a good option to look for apartments while here in person. You will notice different places that are nice and up for rent while walking through the streets of whatever city you plan to be in.
