About Me

Welcome to Latinas Lindas!

My name is Seth Colvin. I created this website to provide people with the necessary information about living & dating in Latin America with a heavy emphasis on Colombia.

Who am I?

To start, I was born in 1985 in a small city in the United States. Though my family moved away very soon after I was born and was raised almost all of my life in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Colombia.

I studied Spanish in college because I had already been learning Spanish for 4 years. I also had a natural interest in the history of Latin America.

During those years, I mostly worked different jobs from Subway to a Spanish tutor.

Now you may ask…..

What do I know about Colombia and how did I get here?

Well, to be honest, I never had an interest in Colombia during my younger years. I never knew much about Colombia for most of my life.

In fact, I guarantee you that I probably misspelled Colombia as “Columbia” at least once in my life.

Like a lot of people, my only perception of Colombia was a country filled with bloody violence by Pablo Escobar.

…..So what changed?

Well, time for a quick story….

In college, I studied abroad in Barranquilla, Colombia.

It was my first time ever having left the United States. Not going to lie, I was nervous about leaving my country for the first time. Especially to a place mostly known for its drug violence.

Among my friends, the joke was that I was going to get kidnapped and held hostage.

Well, fortunately things turned out differently….

Instead of being held hostage in the mountains in some drug overlord’s cocaine filled mansion with guns being pointed at my head….

……I relaxed at Tayrona National Park on the beach with plenty of cute Colombianas sun-bathing nearby.

……On a sunny day I enjoyed a few beers with local friends I made while watching sexy women dance down the street.

This was during one of Latin America’s biggest carnivals.

The Barranquilla Carnival that is held every year around February to March.

….And while the sexy colombianas always kept me busy….

From the women I met in my first few months to the girl I ended up being in a relationship with.

It is also true that Colombia has more to offer than just the nice chicas.

Of all of the natural sights that Colombia has to offer…

From the beaches near Santa Marta to the mountains near the Coffee Triangle.

So, suffice to say, I loved every minute of my first 7 months studying in Colombia.

After college, I wanted to go back.

Not just because I was in a relationship with a nice Colombiana at that time.

But mostly because I really just enjoyed the country very much.

And when I left college, I was determined to return.

…..but how could I do that?

After all, I can’t be a student forever at Barranquilla.

………They would probably run out of courses for me to take before I even reached 40.

Furthermore, the central question to living abroad is always money.

I needed to make money to support myself down here.

At first, I did just that by teaching English down here.

And it was ok.

Just enough to pay the bills but not much more. Tired of going from paycheck to paycheck, I began working harder.

Most importantly, I looked for ways to earn an income online. I started that adventure with freelance writing. The money came in a little bit easier and I started to feel more comfortable.

However….

By the time you are a bit older and a few years out of college, only having a few hundred in savings gets a little bit old.

Not ideal.

So I looked for other ways to support myself and I quit teaching English in Colombia.

Instead, I began teaching English online where I could make more money. Also, I began using copywriting to earn income. Which turned into a bigger money maker for me than anything else.

Since then….

Well, it’s been many years since I’ve been in Latin America. While in Colombia, I have earned a better income from copywriting and teaching English online.

So now I travel a tiny bit more since I enjoy my time in Latin America. Most of my time spent is in Colombia.

But I also enjoy traveling to Mexico and Peru also.

10 Facts About Myself.

1: In Colombia, I rent an apartment in Bogota specifically.

2: I have been to the following Latin American countries: Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Venezuela, Panama and Costa Rica.

3: My favorite alcoholic drinks are the Cuba Libre, Mojito and Screwdriver.

4: I enjoy hiking.

5: While I enjoy living in Colombia, I’m interested in spending more time in Paraguay. Notably, the history of Paraguay is interesting to me.

6: Another goal of mine is to spend some time in Manaus, Brazil. I would like to see the Amazon Rainforest again.

7: I am working to improve my Portuguese to be as good as my Spanish.

8: Even though I love living in Colombia, it is not a perfect place. One of the things that I don’t like about Colombia include the bad food. The pollution in the cities is bad. Also taxi drivers always try to rip me off.

9: Despite that, one of the things I love most about Colombia are the history (specifically the period of La Violencia). I also enjoy the dating & nightlife here (obviously). Finally, the music (specifically bands like Grupo Niche) is nice too.

10: Since this is a website that focuses heavily on dating & nightlife, two of my favorite bars to visit in Colombia are based in Barranquilla: La Troja and La Cueva.

What is Latinas Lindas?

The basic purpose of this website is to help my readers have a better understanding of how to live a nice life in Latin America with a heavy emphasis on Colombia. In addition, a lot of content focuses on dating and nightlife.

This is a website for anyone who is considering visiting or even living in Latin America (and especially Colombia).

And perhaps finding a nice Colombiana or Latina to enjoy life with.

Understandably, there are different issues to visiting Latin America (including Colombia) and finding a nice woman.

10 Challenges

Linguistically: You need to learn Spanish to improve your experience here.

Financially: How are you going to afford the trip? Are you also planning on living down here? How will you manage to support yourself for long periods of time?

Legally: There is a lot to know when it comes to visas in Colombia and other Latin countries.

Culturally: Both of you come from different cultures, which can cause difficulties sometimes.

Isolation: Being in a new country that is not your own can make you feel isolated at times when you don’t know anyone.

Confusion: Some of your friends and family will think you are crazy for visiting Latin America.

Honesty: You find a nice girl you like in Latin America. However, how confident are you that she does not have bad intentions?

Risk: There are plenty of scammers in the world and you have to be careful.

Sickness: Plenty of people get very sick down here. It’s not guaranteed to happen but it’s common enough to mention.

Fear of the Unknown: If you have never left your country before, you might feel uneasy about going.

And keep in mind these are just a few of the challenges you may experience when looking for love or something casual in Latin America.

Fortunately, you will have ALL the information you need about living and dating in Latin America in this website.

This information will address just how to deal with some of the challenges listed above and more. Furthermore, my website will hopefully help you in not only addressing these issues that may come up…

But also where to go in Latin America and how to make the most of your time so that you can be happy down here.

**Why am I offering this information for free?**

As already described before, visiting Colombia and living down here has greatly improved my life. I enjoy both living down here and the history and culture of this country also.

It’s not a perfect country and I’m not here to sell you a fantasy land either.

However, it is a country that I have always been happier being in and it’s a country I am passionate about.

So not only do I enjoy living down here and writing about it, I would like others to enjoy life down here as well.

…..It can probably be said that they had a little bit too much aguardiente and some aguila beer that day.
