The Foreign Guy & Barrio Girl Relationship in Colombia

On one end of a computer screen, you got an old American dude that is 80 years old, overweight and lonely.

On the other end, you got a cute Colombian chick that is playing on the old dude about how much she loves him and how she needs financial help for her kid.

The old American dude – relived to finally get some attention from an attractive woman – feels sorry for her. He sends a few hundred dollars of his savings to her by Western Union.

Once she gets news of that, she walks outside with one of her barrio boyfriends to collect the money.

But not until she spreads her legs for her barrio boyfriend while having just told the old American dude that she only has eyes for him!

Oddly enough, this story isn’t as absurd as it sounds. Scenarios like this do happen where foreigners get played like a whistle online to Colombian chicks that just want money.

But it goes deeper than that…

Because there are various ways in which foreign men interact with these so called “barrio chicks” that come from bad neighborhoods in Colombia.

Barrio chick being a chick from a bad neighborhood basically and usually doesn’t have too many aspirations in life.

A chick that also tends to play the field with multiple dudes – though not always to be fair.

At any rate, there is a history in Colombia of so called “barrio chicks” interacting with foreign men.

The description above is just one example.

It’s an interesting type of relationship given how often it has occurred from what I have seen.

So what are the ways in which this type of relationship occurs? Let’s look at it based on what I have seen.

First: The Online Gringo

This doesn’t require any more explanation than what you see above.

It’s a relationship that stays strictly online almost always. Sometimes the dude does actually come to Colombia and maybe has a date with the chick. Maybe they even have sex!

But it’s more common for the dude to stay at home and just send her money occasionally.

And if he does come to Colombia after already having sent her money, then that is how their relationship continues.

He has already put himself into the “provider” box and will be expected to give her more money when in Colombia.

And the dude will most likely do it as this type of man usually has limited experience with women and has no problem being a provider in this way.

While also is usually a bit desperate and lonely. So the chick at least gives him attention, the feeling of some love and maybe even something sexual in exchange for his money.

Something she needs because of the fact that she lives in a bad and poor neighborhood with limited opportunities.

If you don’t want to fall into this trap, just don’t send her money ever. No reason. If you do that, the chick will eventually disappear from your life without issue. You might even get to have sex with her if you are in Colombia and know how to escalate on a date with her. She might eventually try to get money out of you but will leave when she sees that is not happening.

That’s how I recommend dealing with this type of chick anyway. Enjoy having sex with her if possible if you can get it there while in Colombia but don’t ever send money.

Second: The Rough Gringo

Additionally, you have had plenty of foreigners come to Colombia over the years looking for just sex and drugs.

In Medellin, this often meant foreigners going to places like Comuna 13 and the general slums of the city. They often went to use drugs and sleep around with some of the chicks there.

There have been foreigners like this dating to before I ever showed up to Colombia in 2006 initially.

Ultimately, they live a rougher lifestyle in my opinion. While in the slums, they encounter chicks that they can sleep with.

Where these chicks can be prostitutes or simply chicks that they have met up with somehow.

Third: The Gringo with a Family

This type of relationship is not all too common but is something I have seen before actually.

Basically, you have a foreigner that got caught up with some Colombian chick from the barrio, had sex with her and got her pregnant.

Now it might be the case that she isn’t actually pregnant. Keep in mind that these chicks will often be playing around with other local men in her time.

And once pregnant, simply goes to the gringo as Mr. Meal Ticket since he is the one with the most money and who can provide the best for the upcoming child.

Sometimes the gringo is the actual father. Other times he isn’t.

If you are in this type of scenario and a chick is coming at you like this, make sure to get a paternity test. Do not get scammed. There are foreigners that have ended up like this.

And this type of scenario (scam or not) is why some of them still hang around with some barrio chick or ever visit her area.

Fourth: The Stumbling Gringo

This type of gringo is not specifically looking for a barrio chick. He is not looking to go to the barrio specifically.

In fact, if you told him that he is going to the slums, he’d probably have a heart attack out of fear maybe.

The reality is that this type of gringo just happened to stumble upon a barrio chick and got led to her place at night for a fun hookup.

I have had cases like that myself actually – where I meet a chick at night where our date is at some bar or whatever. Then we head to her place and I have no idea where her place is or if it is a safe area.

But my dick does more thinking than my brain in these cases so I get in the taxi. And once we show up to where she lives, I see where we are.

I see it especially during the day when things are clearer and I get a better view of where I am.

I once was in a relationship many years ago in Colombia with a chick that lived in a pretty crappy part of town. The first time I went to her neighborhood to visit her family, the taxi driver turned around to talk to me.

He was confused about why I would even show up to this area but understood I had a girl there. He told me to put some of my money in my shoe and in other parts of my body to hide it well. Then he said to me that it was a very dangerous area and I shouldn’t be lingering around outside too long. Always be aware of my surroundings.

In another case in the Dominican Republic, I remember I spent the night at some chick’s place after having met her at a bar. When I woke up and we walked outside, I noticed that we were in a very shitty neighborhood. By far one of the sketchiest places I had been to down here. I visited her place again another night later when my dick was doing the thinking and the taxi driver was very nervous when driving me around there.

Especially since I couldn’t quite remember where her apartment was and we had him call her number to help us out quickly.

Suffice to say, I gave that guy an extra tip for putting himself there.

And fortunately, nothing happened to me when going to either neighborhood but still…

Sometimes when dating chicks down here, you will just stumble your way into the barrio.

You are not specifically looking for drugs or this type of chick. But because of circumstances, you find yourself here.

Now why do relationships or interactions between foreigners and barrio chicks happen?

Well….

Why Does it Happen?

Keep in mind most foreigners are not looking for barrio chicks or to interact with them.

Also, most barrio chicks are not looking for a foreigner to interact with either.

But still….

It depends.

For the foreign dude, it could be that he is desperate and lonely as is the case with the online gringo. Or he could be looking to live a more dangerous lifestyle as in the rough gringo.

Or perhaps he has bad luck and got one pregnant or simply stumbled his way into being with a barrio chick.

And for the barrio chicks? Why do they interact with these dudes?

Well, in some cases, they simply want money.

Now some of you might assume they also want a green card or access to the US. In my experience, most Colombian women don’t want to live in the US. I wrote more about this topic here.

But most would prefer living in their home country. But some of them wouldn’t mind access to some US dollars.

However, I would say most barrio chicks are not looking for money and most I have been with did not ask for money. Some have but most no.

And if the chick doesn’t have kids, then the likelihood of her wanting money is much lower from what I have seen.

In my experience, most just like to fool around with different dudes here and there and you stopped by. They found you sexually attractive enough and agreed to a date and maybe something more.

So for a lot of these chicks, it’s mostly just curiosity and sexual interest out of having happened to have come across a gringo.

Personal Thoughts

In the end, I don’t see anything wrong for the most part with this type of relationship.

Now obviously I’m not a fan of foreign men getting scammed by sending money or by taking care of a kid that is not their kid biologically.

But assuming no scams occur, then there isn’t much issue here for most of these interactions. Simply put, both parties get what they want. That might mean dating, sex, drugs, etc.

The bigger issue though from what I have seen is with prostitution. Now I got nothing against folks that use the services of prostitutes as long as the woman consents to it and is overage obviously. If she consents and finds it beneficial to her life in some way, then no big deal. I’m not encouraging it but that’s how I see it.

But keep in mind that some of these prostitutes that some of these foreign men deal with are actually underage. That does happen unfortunately. You can read about it here for example where men using underage trafficking victims are busted.

It’s an unfortunate reality of Colombia and the world more broadly speaking. And when talking about foreign men going to Colombia to meet barrio chicks, sometimes they do come across sex trafficking victims.

That’s ultimately the real issue here. Fortunately, Colombia is trying to address this issue more and more by busting the people involved in it.

Either way, that basically concludes my thoughts and observations on all of this regarding foreign men interacting with barrio chicks or Colombian women from poorer neighborhoods.
