- How Important is Age Difference with Dating Colombian Women?
Every once in a while someone thinking of Colombia may be wondering how important is age difference with dating Colombian women.
Well, generally speaking age difference is less important in Colombia than it is elsewhere in the world like the US.
In Colombia, you will find younger women who focus more heavily on their looks than career so that ideally they can find a slightly older man who has a established career
Someone more mature who can help take care of her and the family they might have together someday
Having said that, I would say there probably is a real limit to the age difference with dating Colombian women.
For example, there are fewer parents here who would be comfortable with their 20 year old daughter dating a 50 year old man than a 35 year old man.
Furthermore, it’s still the same down here where a woman is less likely to find you physically attractive if there is a very significant age difference (think 30 to 40 years of difference).
Regardless, there are still plenty of women down here who would go for a very large age difference of 30 to 40 years if the guy had a lot of money and could take care of her well
The reality is that money is generally speaking a lot more important for Colombian women and having someone who can provide a stable income.
In all my years in Colombia, I have never seen a young college girl dating a 40 year old broke Colombian guy who has no money to offer
So when it comes to very large age differences, such as 30 to 40 years, having lots of money is crucial.
When it comes to smaller age differences, such as 5 to 15 years, money is not as important if you can still maintain your physical appearance well and if you are good with women
In addition, it is also important that there are differences in certain parts of Colombia when it comes to age difference.
For example, you will find less women in Bogota who are accepting of a big age difference (more than 15 years) than in other parts of Colombia
The reason for this is that women in Bogota are much more focused on their career and studies
And usually do not emphasize as much finding a provider husband who can take care of her
However, in the rest of Colombia, it is much easier to find a woman who is looking for someone with money.
Which then brings up the question…..
How much money?
It greatly depends on the woman in question and how big the age difference is but generally speaking not a lot of money.
The reality is that as a foreigner from a richer country like the US, you most likely have enough money to satisfy her
The average job in Colombia pays very little and the exchange rate these days heavily favors the US dollar
As mentioned in another article, the cost of living for me in Bogota, one of the more expensive cities in Colombia, is $1,005 a month.
For a Colombian girl outside of Bogota, it would cost less than that to cover all of her expenses while she stayed at home and raised your kids.
Having talked with a friend before writing this article that does have a Colombian wife that stays at home, he said he doesn’t know exactly how much he spends on her specifically but around 600 to 700 USD a month is what he guessed.
So assuming the girl you are thinking of is not money hungry and is not asking for too much, around 600 USD might cover it.
Which, keep in mind, is more than what the average Colombian guy is going to be able to afford
It may not seem like too much but that’s a decent amount of money in Colombia.
My Personal Advice on Age Difference
Understandably, guys prefer younger women who are better looking overall
However, I would say that pursuing a serious relationship with a Colombian woman where there is a significant age difference of over 15 years is not very wise
In my own experience having seen other men date women considerably younger than them, infidelity tends to be a much bigger issue
In even worse cases, some of these guys bring these girls back to the US where they end up getting divorced and she gets a lot of money
The reality is that a Colombian woman who is notably younger then you is less likely to find you physically attractive and it is less likely you two will have much in common
Additionally, if there is a big age difference of over 15 years, you have to ask yourself why she can’t get a local Colombian guy who has a decent job and is a little bit younger
While writing this article, I have thought of all the guys I know who date Colombian women down here
Most of the guys who date chicks who are younger than them by 15 years tend to not last long in their relationships or marriage with them
One of the reasons being is that the girls who are willing to date a guy with a significant age difference of over 15 years is less likely to be a quality woman
And for that reason she may have had a difficult time finding a serious local Colombian guy and was willing to settle down with a much older foreign guy.
However, in some cases, these larger age differences have worked out
Especially if the girl comes from a very conservative and religious background
The type of Colombian girl who comes from a lesser known part of Colombia that is a bit more rural and where family values is much more important
In cases like that, I see greater possibility that a very significant age difference of over 20 or 30 years could work out
But much of it working out is going to depend heavily on the money as implied before. You need to be able to provide with money and security while she stays at home to raise the kids if you want a significant age difference.
Regardless, if you are looking for a nice Colombian woman to settle down with, I’d always recommend that a smaller age difference will make the relationship or marriage work better overall
For that reason, try not to seriously date any chick younger than 15 years since that generally is the max limit from what I see in other guys dating down here
Final Thoughts
In the end, date whoever you think would be best for you down here
There are plenty of beautiful Colombian chicks willing to date a older foreigner as long as the difference isn’t too much and as long as he has his life in order
But just make sure to improve your Spanish so you can find higher quality women here — either using resources you can find online or use a translator
