10 Tips to Avoid the Sex Tourist Label in the Medellin Dating Scene

You are sitting down in a café in Medellin, Colombia

After having traveled many hours to get there, you are finally ready to enjoy one of the main reasons why you showed up

Is it the delicious bandeja paisa or some other type of Colombian food that made you visit?

No.

How about the amazing view in Plaza Botero?

No.

Maybe you came to enjoy the nearby town of Guatapé?

No.

Enjoy Colombian culture perhaps and make new friends?

Well….almost.

The reason you showed up, like thousands of other foreigners, is to get laid with what so many others say are the most beautiful women in the world.

Paisa women.

Now regardless of whether or not women from Medellin (paisa women) are actually the sexiest women of the planet….

That is simply the reputation they have gotten over the years as so many foreigners continue to go to Medellin to get laid

Often thinking that by simply being the 105,987,265th million foreigner to show up, that all the paisa women will fall to their needs and beg to have sex with them

However, things have changed

This isn’t the early 2000s anymore where you would have been a more rare sight in Medellin

And even back then, it wouldn’t have been that easy

As of recently, there have even been “dating academies” set up in Medellin that have pissed off some of the women there

Suffice to say, all of this has created a stereotype about foreigners as simply being sex tourists

Folks that show up to bang a few paisa chicks and head back home

And so while you are sitting in your café in Medellin, you see your date show up

A cute Paisa woman named Karla that sits down with you and asks you a bunch of questions

  • “Why are you here?”
  • “How long are you here?”
  • “Have you met any other women here?”
  • “What do you do here in Medellin?”

While some of these might seem like very innocent questions…

Often they are asked by some women in Medellin as ways to tell if you are a sex tourist or not

Essentially, are you here just to bang a few chicks and leave?

More importantly, she might be wondering if those are your intentions with her specifically

And because of this stereotype, Medellin is not necessarily the easiest city to get laid in Colombia

Other places like Cali or Pereira make much better options as of this writing for getting laid with beautiful women

But I get you! You have heard all the hype about Medellin and you must enjoy the beautiful Paisa women

So how do you do it? How do you convince her that you are not a sex tourist and that you are different?

It’s really quite simple actually. We will start with the first two most important tips and then work our way into 8 other important tips to make sure you can overcome the sex tourist stereotype in the Medellin dating scene.

And hopefully get to bang some of the hot Paisa women that this city has to offer. 😉

Tip 1: Dedicate Real Time There

So many of the foreigners mentioned before come here for just a few weeks and then they leave.

In those few weeks, maybe they pay for prostitutes or maybe they manage to bang a few of the Paisa women.

Or perhaps they are not so successful and have to rely on the ol’ right hand

Either way, most of these guys are not staying here for very long – often because money and time are limited

And so one way to make your stand out significantly is actually spend significant time here of at least 6 months let’s say

Of course, the more time you can put in, the better

But doing this brings so many benefits

First, you experience and understand the local culture more. This will become obvious to her as you two get to know each other and you show how much you know of the local culture

Second, you can make local friends here and we will talk about the benefits of that later in this article

But ultimately, it shows to her that you are more dedicated to Medellin and are not some typical tourist coming in for a few weeks and then leaving

That you are more serious and stable and might be interested in something more serious with her

Overall, greatly improving how you look to her and reducing her suspicions that you are just a typical sex tourist

Tip 2: Speak Spanish

This is another big difference between the typical sex tourist and you.

The typical tourist doesn’t speak much Spanish if any

They go around the city approaching Paisa women and asking in a loud voice…

“dO yOu SpEaK eNgLiSh???”

Let’s take that scenario into the US for a second

Let’s say in the US you see some random German dude approaching random chicks in the street and asking in that loud voice in German if they speak German

You think those panties are going to drop?

Point being – you need to learn Spanish. Doing so will put you ahead of most of the foreigners coming to Medellin

And ultimately will make you seem like a more serious person to date and sleep with in her eyes

Not only do you seem smarter but also you show that you are more serious about being in Colombia

Which most of these sex tourists don’t do – again, making yourself seem different from them

 On top of all of that, you can communicate yourself much better and flirt much easier and smoother

All around making it much easier to get laid in Medellin and avoid the sex tourist stereotype

Tip 3: Meet Women in Non-Touristy Events or Environments

Now if you can do the first two tips in this list, you are already miles ahead of most foreigners coming to Medellin

And will have a much better chance of avoiding the sex tourist label from just those two tips alone

Though here’s another tip for you – it’s much better to meet women in non-touristy events or environments.

By non-touristy events, just look up online or ask some friends about any local events being held in your area in Medellin

Plenty of them don’t attract a lot of tourists because most tourists are focused on other things – like chasing women in Parque Lleras

Or you can meet women in environments like school, a local job (if you happen to have one), a club, etc

Doing any of these things will put you in environments where the women are not necessarily expecting to see a foreigner

So their guard in general is a little bit more down when it comes to suspecting your intentions

But on top of that, it makes you seem more serious and rooted in the city as you are committed to something that most tourists are not doing

And something that most of the sex tourists, if not all of them, are not doing either

At least in her eyes

So overall it increases your chances of avoiding that sex tourist label if you approach and meet women in these types of environments or events

Tip 4: Meet Women Through Social Connections

Another way to meet women is through friends.

As said before, living in Medellin longer than a few weeks will make it easier for you to make guy friends while living in this city.

Ideally guy friends who are actually from Colombia or Medellin that can invite you to local parties and meet local women

All of which will give you opportunities to meet more hot Paisa women that you wouldn’t have met otherwise

But on top of that, these women will be much less suspicious of you and if you are a sex tourist

In large part because you have more social proof – you were introduced by a friend of hers and somebody she trusts

Which is not what the typical sex tourist is doing in this city

This is arguably one of the other most important pieces of advice in this article that really helps overcome that sex tourist stereotype in the Medellin dating scene

Tip 5: Use Instagram as Social Proof

If you have been living in Medellin or Colombia for at least several months, ideally you have taken photos of your experience

As said before, women are more trusting of men that have spent significant time in their country

It makes you seem a lot less like a sex tourist since most are here for a few weeks and that is it

So with those photos you have taken of your time here, put them on your Instagram!

That way when you get to know a woman in Medellin or elsewhere in Colombia, you can direct her to your Instagram account

And can verify that you actually do enjoy her country beyond the women and have experienced it well

It will back up your story that you are more serious about Colombia and living there as well

All around making you seem a lot less likely to be a sex tourist and she will be more interested in you overall

Which brings us to the next point….

Tip 6: Knowing Areas Outside of Medellin

If you can demonstrate knowledge of Colombia outside of Medellin, this will be to your advantage

So many of the sex tourists don’t ever go outside of Medellin

When you have so many good Colombian cities to visit like Bogota, Pereira, Barranquilla, etc

So occasionally drop this piece of information in the conversations you have with women from Medellin

How you enjoyed your time in Bogota or saw the Barranquilla Carnival or learned how to dance salsa in Cali

All of which shows a deeper appreciation for her country as a whole, which is not what the usual sex tourist does

And speaking of dancing salsa…

Tip 7: Know How to Dance

Now no woman here is going to expect you to dance perfectly to Latin music

But learning how to dance the basics really does put you ahead of quite a few guys

Even asking her to teach you a little bit or practice with you can be impressive alone since it shows an interest in the culture

And when so many guys only show interest in having sex with the women, showing a deeper appreciation for her culture means so much more

Now some of the dances you can go for learning are merengue, bachata, salsa, etc

I found merengue to be a bit easier and salsa to be a little more difficult

But any of them work and will improve your chances of avoiding the sex tourist label and having more dating success down here

Tip 8: Meeting Women Outside of Touristy Areas

Another thing you want to do is to try meeting women in public places outside of touristy areas

This is similar to a previous tip with meeting women among guy friends at parties or meeting them in work, etc

In this case, you will want to go to shopping malls or parks that are not overly touristy compared to other places like Parque Lleras

Tip 9: Not Going for Sex on First Date

For the foreigners not looking to bang prostitutes, they are usually going for normal chicks they meet and try having sex on the first date

Now as mentioned in this article I wrote, going for sex on the first date in Colombia can often work in your advantage

Though plenty of women will not go along with that, others will

But that advice works a little bit less in Medellin where foreigners have to deal with that sex tourist stereotype

Now if you followed the first two tips in this article and some of the others, you most likely have already convinced her that you are not a sex tourist

So going for sex on the first date will most likely be OK overall – especially since Paisa women are not the most conservative women in Colombia like women from Huila or Nariño for example

But it is true that overall trying to get sex on the first date does increase the chances that she might suspect you are just a sex tourist

So if you want to completely avoid that possibility, simply waiting until the second or maybe third date will help avoid this risk

But it’s not always necessary – one night stands do happen in Medellin but this article is about doing everything we can to avoid that association of being a sex tourist in her eyes

So just keep that in mind

Tip 10: Be a Higher Value Man

Here’s the thing about a lot of these sex tourists that come to Medellin looking for quick and easy sex…

A lot of them are lower value men

Now not all of them are like. Some actually are very high value in general. They work out, speak Spanish, make good money, are social, etc

But quite a few are not and Colombian women in Medellin have seen it over and over again

Low value dudes with no muscle, no Spanish, no money and no social skills coming over to Medellin for a few weeks in hopes that the panties will drop just because they are a foreigner

When it doesn’t work like that – you have to still be a man that these women want to have sex with obviously

And simply being a dude with a funny accent isn’t going to make it happen with high quality women for you

And by focusing on self-improvement, you overall make yourself distinct from the stereotypical sex tourist that they come across

That’s not to say that this alone will eliminate any suspicion of you only wanting sex since there are high value men that do come here to bang a lot of chicks also

Just that you reduce some of the suspicion she might have by focusing on self-improvement and also you increase her attraction for you

Which overall will make it easier for you to have sex with women you meet in Medellin

It’s common sense but it needs to be said because there is no free lunch

In order to have sex with the best women out there, you have to put in the hard work

Final Thoughts

Overall, if you are determined to go to Medellin to enjoy the women here, keep all of this advice in mind for your trip

You will greatly decrease the chances of being seen as a sex tourist and greatly increase the chances of banging a lot of sexy Paisa women

Or even hot Colombian women from other parts of this great country
