- A Colombian Woman’s Taxi Trick
A very common scenario that illustrates a common Colombian woman’s taxi trick…
Let’s say you travel to Colombia using Avianca Airlines or whatever airline company you prefer
You rent some apartment in Colombia and you are talking with a cute Colombian chick
Then you make plans to see each other, ideally close to your place
Afterwards she says “you will pay for my taxi won’t you?”
For those who have spent enough time dating Colombian women, you will notice that sometimes Colombian women will insist on you paying for her taxi.
In the case where she takes the taxi directly to your place, it’s usually because she doesn’t want to take public transportation.
However, sometimes Colombian women will take a guy’s money from the taxi fare without him realizing it — which is a common Colombian woman’s trick trick down here
It’s something that I noticed myself and something that other foreigners have noticed as well while living in Colombia.
What Happens?
Basically, a Colombian woman might ask you to help cover her taxi charge as she is leaving your place.
You give her the money that the taxi driver charges, then she leaves
About 5 minutes later, she tells the taxi driver to stop her at some spot and she only pays a smaller amount than what was initially charged
She takes the rest of the money and uses a smaller portion of that to cover her bus home
Which allows her to keep some of the money you have her that was initially for the taxi
Does this Colombian woman’s taxi trick happen often here?
Yes.
However….
As always, it depends on where in Colombia.
In parts like Bogota, it doesn’t happen as much for whatever reason
Not sure why but the women in Bogota seem less interested in ripping a guy off a few bucks here and there
Additionally, this was never something I noticed in Medellin
Probably because the public transportation system is better there and easier to get a girl around by the metro
However, in some cities like Barranquilla or Cali, this sort of behavior seems a lot more common.
There are of course a few things to note here about the typical Colombian woman’s taxi trick:
Important Points
- One is that this sort of behavior of trying to take a few extra dollars from a guy is a bit dishonest and illustrative of bad character. Some people might try to justify this behavior by the fact that the women here have less money, but that’s not a real excuse.
- Second is that this type of behavior only seems to happen after you have finished your date with her and she is on her way home. Not when she is going to see you.
- Third is that the women in some parts of the country, like Barranquilla, do seem more likely to try and take advantage of a guy financially. That’s just my experience. In other parts, like Bogota or even some of the lesser known areas of Colombia like Popoyán, it doesn’t happen as much.
In addition, I have had some of my own experiences with this and have listened to others describe the same.
In my experience, I was once dating a girl down here many years ago when I was still studying abroad in Barranquilla.
On one of our dates…
She insisted quite heavily that I pay for her taxi.
However, I wasn’t willing to pay for it and she got a little bit annoyed with me.
I mentioned to her that she can easily take the bus given that she apparently lived very close to the bar we went to.
In which she then explained that she the money would be for her taxi and some of it could be used for helping take care of her kid that she was raising alone.
Well, even though I understand it is hard for her to raise her kid as a single parent, that’s not my responsibility
And I literally just met her on that date, so I wasn’t interested in helping her out and felt like she was trying to use me forextra money
Especially given that she didn’t even explain initially that part of the taxi money would be used for that purpose
And also that I just had met her maybe an hour or two before
Going beyond that…
I’ve also heard of other guys having this issue in Colombia as well.
For example, I once met a Canadian guy that I got to knew while living in Cali years ago.
He told me a story that was a bit funny at the time (though I’m sure pissed him off)
Basically, he met a girl in Cali that he went to a bar with
Afterwards, they went back to his place and then he helped her with the taxi when they were done
She asked the taxi driver how much and he gave her the money for it
A kiss goodbye and off she went
Afterwards, he went walking alone to some nearby restaurant to have dinner
On the way there, he passed by a very busy street in Cali where there was a nearby bus stop.
It maybe took him 15 minutes to walk to the busy street where he noticed the girl he just said goodbye to a second ago
She was across the street and apparently at some bus stop just standing there like nothing happened
He didn’t walk up to her to say anything or ask why she was at a bus stop when he just paid for her taxi
But it was obvious that she didn’t go along with the whole taxi ride
Either way, he went along his way to the restaurant he was going to and she was able to pocket a few extra bucks than normal
The common Colombian woman’s taxi trick strikes again!
Third, I can also mention some of the times that Colombian women have admitted to me that this happens. Granted, I haven’t talked to lots of Colombian women about this specific topic but some I have
Among some of the more serious girlfriends I have had in Colombia over the years, I have sometimes asked them questions about Colombia to clarify things I have been confused about
In every case of having asked about this, they have admitted that some chicks will do this.
However, one detail to mention is that all of them claimed that women who do this are often “lower class” or those who don’t have any job or education
Therefore, they are more likely to ask different guys they are dating to pay for certain things and ideally get some money outof the situation for themselves
Keep in mind…
That these chicks don’t often have a lot of money themselves and usually come from a poorer neighborhood
The only money they might be bringing in is from their parents or from any of the guys they are dating and having sex with at the time
And in my experience, it might be true that this is something that only lower class chicks would do
At least among all the girls that I have dated while in Colombia, it’s mostly the ones that come from poorer neighborhoods
You don’t usually see a girl who has a job of her own to be trying to get a guy to pay for her taxi and pocket the money
And as said before, in some of the richer cities like Bogota, this almost never happens as much in my experience.
Keep in mind, this is just one of the few stories I have heard over the years of living here in which women in Colombia try to make a few extra bucks from asking for help on the taxi
I guess the bigger question is….
What should you do about this Colombian woman’s taxi trick?
Well, I guess it depends.
If you are with a chick that you hope to have sex with later but haven’t yet, you may think to perhaps just pay her taxi then and hope for something to happen at the later date
However, I’m not sure this is really important. I don’t think any Colombian chick would think badly of you for not paying for the taxi
Especially as I normally wouldn’t pay for her taxi and sex still happens
Generally speaking she is hoping you pay for her taxi but won’t likely refuse to have sex later if you don’t pay for it
Additionally, if you don’t even know her that well, you shouldn’t be paying for that much money on her anyway
Especially if you haven’t even had sex yet and don’t know much about her
On top of that…
Most Colombian chicks are fine with taking the bus and it’s really not a big deal
Especially given that most of the local guys in Colombia wouldn’t pay for her taxi, why should you?
Just because you are a richer foreigner who can afford it? That’s just her using you for money in my opinion
However, if you are in a serious relationship with her, paying for her taxi is fine then obviously.
Therefore, no big deal if it’s someone you care about.
