Over the years of living in Colombia, I have met men who took risk with Colombian bride services as they sought love here in Colombia
In many cases, the risk with Colombian bride services come from using the services of a bad company or simply not being compatible with your partner
And so in one case, I saw that clearly while in Bogota not too long ago
In which I was sitting in a bar called The Pub in Bogota last year, I ordered another beer while another guy came into the bar and sat down next to me
He spoke with a foreign accent like I did in Spanish and was a little bit on the older side – he had a bald head with wrinkles, was wearing a blue shirt and black pants and had glasses
Given that he was a foreigner like I am, I introduced myself to ask why he was in Colombia
It’s also interesting to me to understand why other foreigners come to Colombia as well like I did many years ago
So he introduced himself as Richard and said that he was from a small town in Indiana and was in Colombia on a “quest looking for love” in his words
So another guy looking to enjoy life with a Colombian woman
Then I asked the guy how everything is going with his time here and he gave out a big sigh right as the bartender then delivered him his beer
He had a drink and then began to tell me that this was actually his…
Second time in Colombia looking for love
And that he had been in other Latin American countries also – specifically Costa Rica and Mexico
And how did it work out there, I asked
He shook his head and said terrible. While in Costa Rica, he never found any girl that he could bring home and even one chick tricked him in sending her a few hundred
So he concluded that all women from Costa Rica are “bitches”
Poor guy, I guess he didn’t like Costa Rica much, huh?
Well, then he goes on about Mexico – saying that the women there are nice and everything but not as curvy as he would like
He found the women in Mexico to be more traditional and loyal but they were just too small with not enough curves – not his type of woman physically
So he gave up on Mexico
Not only because of the issue with the women there but also because he felt that Mexico wasn’t “exotic enough”
For him, exotic meant a more crazy and interesting place with “curvy naked virgin women waiting for a strong man”
Whatever that meant – I just let him keep talking about his time down here because it was interesting
So then we got to Colombia – does Colombia have the type of women he likes?
Well, given his lack of success doing solo trips to Costa Rica and Mexico, he decided to do something more formal with Colombia
Having saved up enough money, he used the services of a Mail Order Bride Company to meet a nice Colombian woman
He didn’t mention the name of the bride company he used the first time he went to Colombia but he said that it was a “fantasy that turned into a nightmare”
So what happened?
Well, he flew into Barranquilla to meet some of the women
Some of the women he liked and some of the others ones he didn’t
For one, some of them had children and he absolutely didn’t want another child in his life to take care of – especially since he was already divorced and had child support payments of his own
Then one of the woman he met through this bride service was “not exotic enough” for him – she wasn’t curvy enough like some of the women he met in Mexico
Finally, he was introduced to a specific Colombian woman that just stole his heart away he said
Her name was Kamila
In how he described he, he first said that she was a “curvy light brown skinned girl with curly brown hair”
Then he paused for a second
Then he went on saying that she had “big tits and an amazing ass”
“though not as amazing as some of the other women there but that’s OK – she had a cute smile also”
I nodded and ordered another beer as his life story was actually a lot longer than what it looks like in this article
But then he goes on saying how she was the sweetest girl ever at first and she promised him everything
After some time of them getting to know each other, he eventually managed someday to get her into the US where she could live a happy life with him
But then “that’s when things started to change”
First, he said, she didn’t want to cook as much anymore and would ask him to clean the dishes at least after a meal
Which, according to him, caused a lot of arguments between the two
Second, he had to continue supporting her as she didn’t know any English and had difficulty learning it
Which meant it took her longer than ideal to learn enough English and get a job
However, once she was more established in the US and she had her own job, she ended up going through with a divorce
And that – according to him – just devastated him
It took some time but the divorce went finally though
Now? He’s back at it again looking for love in Colombia
“What are you looking for?” I asked him
He replied, “a woman who can serve her man always – cooks, cleans and never questions. Someone who doesn’t have kids and can always be at home when I get off work”
Then he paused for a second while he had more of his beer
“and ideally a woman who is very curvy with black hair but I’m going to focus more on her skills than looks this time”
Then I asked if he was using a bride service this time andhe said no
That he already knew a bit about Colombia and felt confident he could find someone at a bar or somewhere in Colombia who can be what he is looking for
Finishing my last beer, I decided to head out because I had planned to see some friends that night
I wish the guy luck and off I went
Final Thoughts
There are some things to take note here
First, this story clearly illustrates some of the risk with Colombian bride services as it is never a guarantee that you will find love or what it will work out
Second, I’m not saying that all bride services in Colombia are bad – I have heard that some are legit and you can find a good woman who is not looking to use you for access to the US
Now I’m not saying either that Kamila in his story was just using him
From what I heard, it sounded like they had problems anyway – in multiple cases he sounded like he didn’t appreciate her enough and only saw her as someone to be a servant to him
Which is not healthy in a relationship because men and women complement each other and not serve each other
But regardless, this is the risk that men face when they use bride order services
Which is that she might just be using you for an easy access to the US
Now do I know much about how to find a good woman using these bride services?
No, because I never used them
I’m only giving out the stories of men who I know have used them to illustrate the point that there are risks when it comes to the women you may come across here
And similar to that, I have heard stories from other men that have had success using Colombian bride services as described in one of my articles
But, like with everything else, I’m sure experiences vary and some men have had good luck with these services
In fact, I met a few guys in Colombia who did have a good time and are still married to the woman they are with
So I know it can work but like with anything else you have to be cautious with the woman you choose to be with
And you are going to want to learn Spanish so that you can have a better chance at meeting high quality women. For example, I recommend this textbook and this translator to help you learn Spanish and better communicate with Colombian women.
