10 Best Jazz Venues in Colombia

As mentioned before on my website, I’m a big fan of jazz music

However, as mentioned in this article, it can sometimes be difficult to find decent jazz music in Colombia

The reality is that the jazz music scene is not as well developed here as it is in other Latin countries like Argentina or Brazil

Even Mexico has a better jazz scene from what I have seen

And so over the years of living in Colombia, it had always been difficult finding the right venues for good jazz music in this country

But that also might be because I first started living in Barranquilla when I began living down here over a decade ago

A city which doesn’t have the biggest jazz scene compared to other Colombian cities.

Neither does Pereira, Popayán or Bucaramanga for example

However, when I began living in Cali and then Bogota, my opinion changed a little bit

Because there is a lot more jazz music to be enjoyed in cities like Bogota, Medellin or Cali

You just have to know where to find them 😉

Fortunately, in this article, you will find the top 10 best venues for jazz music that I have encountered while living in this country for over a decade

Fortunately for you, none of them are too expensive compared to what you would pay at similar clubs in other countries like Brazil

In short, prices are cheaper here relatively speaking for this kind of entertainment and you do have some options to work with

And since this is a website focused on dating Colombian women, you can of course always bring a nice woman you met to one of these jazz clubs in this country

So where should you go with a sweet Colombian women when wanting to enjoy some jazz music on a date?

Let’s take a look at some of the best venues for jazz music in Colombia and other places that occasionally offer jazz music on the side also

¡Vámonos parceros!

Jazz Venue 1: Jazz Bar

Located in a small city in Colombia known as Buga, this is one of the better jazz bars that you will find in Colombia.

The city of Buga has a little over 100,000 people and is located in Valle del Cauca. I recommend you stop at Cali first before going to Buga since Cali is close enough.

Not only will you get to experience an entirely new city that few tourists visit but you will also get to enjoy many nights of incredible jazz music at this venue.

All around the service, the food, the music and the vibe are great here compared to most of the jazz venues in Colombia.

This place is truly a hidden gem in Colombia for those willing to go off the tourist trail and visit it.

Don’t forget to warm up your Spanish before you arrive. 😉

Jazz Venue 2: Cuban Jazz Café

This is a bar located in Bogota. A little bit easier to visit for those wishing to stay on the tourist trail while in Colombia.

By far, this bar has the best design compared to any of the other venues mentioned in this list based on my experience.

The vibe and the atmosphere of the place is great also. All around a great bar to visit.

They have plenty of amazing live shows also.

Finally, the food and the drinks are awesome here. Reasonable prices also.

Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the Colombian capital – Bogota.

Jazz Venue 3: San Café Jazz Club

This is another great venue that is located in Bogota. Similar to the last club mentioned, this venue also has plenty of amazing life music to enjoy.

Drinks are also reasonable here and the customer service is great.

I highly recommend this venue and the last one if you are in Bogota since they are some of the best jazz venues you will find in this city based on my experience.

There isn’t really anything negative to say about these venues so they really deserve your time if you happen to visit here sometime.

Jazz Venue 4: Bolon de Verde

Similar to the last two venues, this is a place that again is located in Bogota.

As you can already tell, Bogota really does have some of the best jazz music you can find in the country when it comes to venues.

The music is good here as well – similar to the last two venues.

The food is also good but not as reasonably priced for the quality. In my experience, the food at some of the previous venues mentioned is a bit more reasonable for the quality than this place.

But overall you can’t go wrong visiting this venue. It’s all around a good option if you have the time to visit this place.

Jazz Venue 5: Punto Baré

Located in Cali, this is one of the better venues to experience occasional jazz music in Cali for when I was living there.

If you are going to Valle del Cauca, it makes sense to definitely visit this venue and then visit the first venue in your free time if you happen to be in the general area.

This place also had good music, live shows and decent prices for the food.

Only complaint though is that the customer service was usually a bit slow whenever I showed up.

Also, they didn’t always have jazz music playing when I showed up but they did on occasion from what I remember.

But all around it is a good place to visit!

Jazz Venue 6: JSB Juan Sebastian-Bar

One great thing about this venue is that it has a good mix of both jazz and rock music.

If you are a fan of rock music, then definitely check out this place as well – and also this article I wrote on the best rock venues in Bogota.

But either way, you will find a little more variety in this venue.

It is also located in Manizales, which is a very nice city in Colombia to spend some time in. While you are enjoying good music and food in this venue, you can also enjoy the dating scene in this beautiful city as it has plenty of amazing women also.

And maybe even invite a Colombian girl to this venue since it also makes for a good place to have a date during the night.

It is a very calm and relaxing place. And prices are reasonable also.

Jazz Venue 7: Hanoí, Café Jazz

This is a cute little café to enjoy during the day while in Medellin. If you want to enjoy a quiet place that often has jazz music from what I remember, then check out this place sometime.

They have good coffee if you are into that and also I recommend you try the sandwiches and hamburgers they have here. The pepperoni sandwich is very good. Plus, customer service is decent.

The only downside to this place is that I never remembered it having any live shows. They may or may not have some occasionally but I don’t remember seeing any there ever.

But it is a great place to chill during the day and even have a date with a cute Colombian girl. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Medellin.

Jazz Venue 8: Teatro Libre Chapinero

This is a performance space that has two locations in Bogota – in Chapinero and also in the Centro of the city.

This is one of the coolest spaces you can visit for performance in general and not just jazz music. They have theater shows, jazz performances and other types of entertainment available.

They also host a Jazz Festival and is one of the best that you will ever find in all of Colombia and even one of the most notable jazz festivals in all of Latin America really.

Which again shows that Bogota really is one of the best cities in Colombia (if not the best) for jazz music.

If you speak Spanish and would like to know more, check out their website here.

Jazz Venue 9: El Club del Jazz

While Bogota is arguably the best city for jazz in Bogota, there is also Medellin.

Which one could argue is one of the other best cities in Colombia for Jazz along with Cali and the Jazz Bar nearby to it.

This is a very nice space anyway for jazz music that is often quite lively and has high quality performances.

It’s definitely worth checking out. If you speak Spanish, make sure to check out their website here.

Also, if you don’t speak Spanish, you can simply check out their Facebook page that is listed on their website. Then message them and explain you don’t speak Spanish very well but would like to know more. Given that it’s Medellin, I would bet someone can help you out since there’s more English speakers in that city.

Jazz Venue 10: Smoking Molly

Located in Bogota, this is another venue that is worth checking out.

Keep in mind that this isn’t necessarily a “jazz venue,” but they do occasionally have jazz events based on what I have experienced.

Similar to JSB Juan-Sebastian Bar, it could be said that this place has a little more variety in the type of music it plays with some jazz mixed in as well. Expect to see a lot of rock, some blues, jazz, etc.

All around this is a good venue to try in Bogota if you want that variety. The live performances are good and the drinks are nice also.

The only complaint I have about this place is that the space is a bit small for the crowd it brings in and the food can be a little bit expensive (but it taste good!).

Either way, definitely check out if you have the time.

Final Tips

Last but not least, it should be mentioned that there is a space in Bogota called the Chamorro Entertainment City Hall.

It definitely is worth checking out because it also will have jazz music playing from time to time. It’s not necessarily a “jazz venue” as it has a variety of music and entertainment performed for a wider audience.

However, it’s definitely a cool place to check out for all of the entertainment it offers, including the jazz music that occasionally gets played.

On top of all of that, if you are really into learning more about Colombian jazz music, then you should check out the band Puerto Candelaria.

They were formed in 2000 in Medellin and are one of my favorite jazz bands in Colombia.

Some of the songs from them that you should check out include Cumbia Rebelde, Crazy Party or Amor Fingido.

If you want to know more about them, check out their website here.

And hopefully that gives you some insight into where to start when it comes to enjoying jazz music in this beautiful country – Colombia!

Hasta luego parceros,
